Microsoft Announces The Surface Tablet Series

Tech:

Microsoft may be late to the game but do they have a winning product?

Yesterday Microsoft announced their entry into the market of tablets with their new product; Surface.

Microsoft is set to release two models of Surface called Microsoft Surface Tablet, and Microsoft Surface Pro. Although the Microsoft Surface tablet is exciting, the Microsoft Surface Pro is prettier on the eyes packing Windows 8 Pro Operating System and a more powerful processor powered by Intel Core i5. Below you can check out the side by side comparisons between the two models.

Though the press event was full of information regarding the specs regarding the Surface tablets, we were given very little information regarding the price tag and the release date for Microsoft's new direction. What we do know is that we will have to wait for Windows 8 release date in October to occur before we can see these products in our hands.

The video below gives us more of an aesthetic look towards the new Surface Tablet. With Surface running under Microsoft and the customization of the the colored keyboards and the addition of the kickstand I can see this tablet being more of an alternative for laptops (for college students) than the iPad.

I guess we will just have to wait and see if Microsoft's late arrival to the tablet market can really pay off. Until then cue the Ohh's and Ahh's as I am sure we will be flooded with Surface promo videos....Like this one...

Lilliputian Systems Can Keep Your Smartphone Charged For A Solid Two Weeks!

Tech:

Now this is sure to spark some interest for anyone who owns a smartphone.

Tired of having your smartphone connected to wall-charger to stay connected with the rest of the world? Well the people at Lilliputian Systems has created a portable fuel cell USB charger  that can fully charge your smartphone or other electronics 10 to 14 times before you plug your device back into a wall charger.

Yes you heard that correctly, that portable charger pictured above can keep your phone charged for a solid 2 weeks without the use of any other power-source. This new charger will be able to charge any device that has a USB cable, so you can keep your iPhone, iPod, Android, or GPS charged.

Seems too good to be true right?...well ...yes there is a catch. In order to charge your devices, for two weeks at a time, you will need to purchase individual fuel cells that will cost "about the same as coffee from Starbucks," said Mouli Ramani, vice president of business development at Lilliputian. In layman terms a fuel cell (in this case) is essentially a plastic cartridge filled with butane. You can think of it as cartridges the size of a normal cigarette lighter.

Lilliputian stated that the first store to sell the portable fuel cell charger will be Brookstone at a price that has not yet been released to the public. You can expect to see this on the shelves within the next year though.

Now I personally hate the fact that this will be in the hands of Brookstone shoppers first because that only means high price tags. The cost advantage towards owning this product does not seem to last when you start to think about the added costs over time. Lets run through them.

  1. The upfront cost to pay for this charger at Brookstone will be high (my speculated "fair" price tag from a store like Brookstone: $25)
  2. The cost to refill your fuel cells every 2 weeks (~$3 per cartridge)
  3. The time and money in travel to purchase the cartridges bi-weekly ($3 in gas.....may be a bit liberal)

That is over $30 in just the first 2 weeks. Now add the costs up for the first year and we have a price tag of $337.....a bit ridiculous (that is if you use this all the time)

So I raise this question. Is this necessary considering the added costs? What about the fraction of the cost to just plug into the wall and purchase an extra battery to replace the dead one once the other dies? That is what I have resulted to. You can find 2 or 3 batteries for your phone on eBay or Amazon for a cost of $3...and guess what...They work completely fine! (Not to mention they come with an extra battery charging dock)

So I am going to stick with my own method before I make this unnecessary purchase (because isn't Brookstone just filled with unnecessary crap that we never actually need)....of course I say this now and one day I will find myself out in the middle of nowhere with no battery left....then I am screwed.

For the science and more info behind this product check out CNET's story

New Verizon HTC Droid Incredible 4G

Tech:

Well the news is out, and HTC and Verizon are preparing to release their newest phone; the Incredible 4G. The information was spotted on DroidDoes.com earlier today but it was quickly removed. Was this just a slip up from some Verizon employee or was this intentionally done to draw up some publicity and excitement.

Whatever the case this phone looks to be packing a powerful punch. (Which is good news for those of you with contract upgrades) The Incredible 4G will be the third installment of the Incredible series phones and this came at the most convenient time where owners of the original Incredible phone will be looking for their next upgrade. I myself am a current owner of the original Incredible phone and I was looking for the next big phone that would not fade after 3 weeks. Before today I was thinking of switching to AT&T for the powerful HTC One X phone. Looks like my plans to switch have disintegrated.

Like I said The Incredible 4G will be packing a powerful punch with a 1.2GHz processor with a gigabyte of RAM. We will be seeing Android 4.0 software (a.k.a. Ice Cream Sandwich) with HTC Sense 4.0. This phone will also be slightly larger than the previous Incredible phones having a 4-inch display. The phone will also have a rear 8-Mpixel camera, and a VGA front facing camera. Like all new HTC phones, Beats Audio will be stalk and and the phone will support a 32 Gbytes microSD card.

Lets hope once Verizon officially puts the rest of the phone specs up we will see that there is some gorilla glass and NFC capabilities involved.

The Incredible 4G may sound like it is a step down compared to the HTC "One" Series. However it makes up the difference by running on Verizon's 4G LTE network.

I must say that I am very excited for this phone simply because it will be on the dependable Verizon Network. Looks like the stress of finding my next phone upgrade is over.....YES!!!

Project Glass: Google's Augmented Reality Glasses

Tech:

Ever think that augmented reality was a far stretch if not impossibility, well it may be apart of your everyday life by this time next year.

Leave it to Google to create the coolest product known to man. Google just announced that they will be testing their newest project out in public. The project called Project Glass is a pair of glasses (viewed above) that displays images as if they are floating in thin air. Seems like a SciFi movie huh?

The capabilities of these glasses are not fully known, however what we do know is that they will allow you to use anything from Google Maps, to Google+, with other capabilities like Text Messages, Phone Calls,  and Video Chat. There may be even more capabilities in the near future now that the project has been announced to the public. The developers/inventors at Google are asking people to stay in touch with the project so Google can get more ideas on how to improve this technology.

“We’re sharing this information now because we want to start a conversation and learn from your valuable input,” Says one of the developers. Project Glass will revolutionize not only the tech world but the way everyone will live our lives.

Project Glass is still in it's testing stage, but now it is no secret. Their were rumors that Google was working on a project like this but it was never released to the public. Now that the news is out, it is more promising that this project may be a great success.

Check out the video below to get a sneak peak/idea of what Project Glass may be capable of doing.

What If Facebook Was Created In The 90's?

Humor: Tech:

What if Facebook was invented in the 90's? Based off of this video let us be thankful that Mark Zuckerberg created the website when he did. This video gives me chills, probably because I never used the internet in the early 90's and did not have to put up with such horrific graphics and terrible operating systems. Attributes like this would would never survive in today's culture.

So let me restate my question....What if Facebook was around during the 90's? Would Facebook still be around today or would it have died out due to lack of technology and capabilities. This is interesting to think about, because in our world today social networking sites like Facebook essentially rule our world.

Facebook tells us who is dating who, when someones birthday is coming up, and who is friends with your friends. But it does not stop there, businesses and organizations are are on Facebook, hell even this website has a Facebook Page. Protests, demonstrations and riots can all be organized to fight back against government through Facebook. It is just crazy how far Facebook has come in just a few short years.

Now that I have you thinking about how far and how fast Facebook has come and ruled our lives, do you think that if Facebook was created in the 90's (20 years ago), then the Facebook we use today would be more complex and social than it already is?

Can Facebook get even more personal with social networking? Will we be able to do online banking, Microsoft Word processing, and read magazines on Facebook? That is just scratching the surface of course, who knows what depths Facebook will enter into our lives one day. Maybe one day we will be able to make babies on Facebook (total extreme and completely impossible, but you get the point).

Or do you think one day Facebook will die out and we will find no use for this social networking/media site again.

Tell us what you think in the NEW Facebook comment box below. Also let us know how freaked out you are once you watch the video. And yes it is funny to watch now, but I would never retract back to those standards of internet browsing.

12 New Spotify Apps Just Waiting To Better Your Music Experiences

Tech: Music:

For those of you currently using Spotify; you know what a great tool and source of music this program offers to your world. For those of you that have no idea what the program is, or you have been reluctant to sign -up and use it....well your simply just missing out with the best way to listen to music. So Sign-Up already!

For those of you who already know about Spotify skip this long drawn-out paragraph and get to the new details.

To give a brief overview of the service, Spotify was first exclusive to only Europe, dating back to 2006. With it's great success across the pond, Spotify was made available to the US this past July. The service operates in a similar manner compared to Grooveshark, however there is more of a social aspect to Spotify, where you and your friends can share tracks and playlists among one another. There are different payment plans that you can choose from while using Spotify. (1) First the one everyone loves; Free. This plan lets you listen to any song or album you want for free. The one downside to free is that you are hit with a radio AD very 4-5 songs. (2) The second plan is Unlimited, which will cost you just under $5/month. This plan gives you unlimited access to all the song you can possibly listen to without the hassle of an AD popping up during your experience. (3) The third plan is call Premium, this costs $9/month (highly worth it if you have a smartphone). You get everything the Unlimited member receives, but you also can travel with your Spotify playlists on the go with your smartphone. I jumped straight to this plan the day it was released in the US and found that it completely made my iPod insignificant. I use Spotify on my phone everyday and the service is fast and easy to use.

Anyways, back to business. Today Spotify released 12 new apps that are definitely worth checking out. These apps are part of Spotify's objective to better service their consumers with their music experiences. This past November Spotify introduced their "App Finder" to the world and found that in just 4 short months, Spotify users spent a total combined time of 1,500 years on spotify apps alone. (This is the only statistical fact released by Spotify regarding their App Finder).

With the first apps introduced back in November I have found some of them to be very useful. The top apps from before that I strongly suggest trying out are Tune Wiki - This App will display the lyrics to the song you are listen to on Spotify at the exact moment they are said. ShareMyPlaylist - This App I have found to be useful while driving, working out, or lounging. The app is a community of people who share and subscribe to user's playlists. This is helpful when you are just too lazy to put together a playlist.  Lastly checkout Billboards Top Charts App, which will give you the top tracks of the week. I find this helpful while trying to keep a group of buddies in a good mood with music everyone knows. (Nothing worse than that anxiety of trying to please everyone with one song)

The New Apps (That were released today) come about from Spotify giving developers the freedom to create some new, well thought-out applications that range from the typical Spotify playlist to new music posted on Twitter apps.

Smartphones: Are They Getting Too Big?

Tech:

Is bigger always better? This question can be swung in two directions when it comes to purchasing a new piece of technology. When I say two directions, I am talking about the purpose that your piece of technology will be used for, and the time frame that you purchased your product.

For instance, you may want the largest possible LCD TV that can fit in your living room, that way you can receive maximum exposure when it comes to watching the big game or a movie. Yet when you are finding a TV for your kitchen you are not going to want to have one that takes up too much space (at least in my own opinion).  This would fall along the the purpose that you will be using your technology.

When I state the time frame when purchasing a product, the example that clearly demonstrates time frame is the size of our iPods. When the iPod first came out  10 years ago they were the size of the classic iPod we see today, yet 2 years later everyone wanted small iPods; iPod Nano (which is even smaller today). Then the introduction of the iPad came about and everyone started to want bigger screens.

So here we are today, and I feel that when we begin to look at the smartphone industry, the general consensus is that the bigger the screen size the better the product. So is bigger really better....in the sense of owning a phone?

This is a question that I have found myself asking regarding my upcoming phone upgrade. I was instantly drawn to the Samsung Galaxy Note when I came across it back in October, and if Verizon offered the Galaxy Note, then I would already own the phone.

I was playing around with the Samsung Galaxy Note just the other day and thought it as the coolest phone on the market (granted I HATE the Samsung stock interface), but then I got to thinking, how the hell would someone be able to carry this phone around in their pocket.

Now I understand that females can carry this phone/tablet around in their handbag but the capabilities that come along with this phone is more for the business person, so no college age, gossip queen, chick will have a purpose with this phone.

So now I find myself in a tight decision where I do not know whether or not to purchase a phone of this magnitude.

Experience Zero Gravity with Zero G: The Best 8 Minute Ride of Your Life!

Tech: Life:

How cool would it be to experience zero gravity? Well the company Zero G will let you experience 8 minutes of zero gravity without even traveling to space. I must say though that this is no Ferris wheel, the ride ticket will not cost you $15, however it is just as ridiculously priced as a carnival ticket.  This is definitely an experience for the rich considering the cost for the coolest 8 minute ride of your life will cost you $5,000.00 (USD) per ride ticket.

Zero G has customized a Boeing 727 as seen above (image) and bellow (video) that will give you the experience of a free fall (or zero gravity) as the plane essentially nose-dives to the earth's crust.  I am thinking of two things while watching this video: (1) This looks like the coolest carnival ride ever and (2) I wonder if these people would be having as much fun as they appear to be having if they just looked out the window to see that they were crashing down to earth in a plane. (Probably that is why there are no windows on this plane)

Anyways with my conflicting views of how cool and terrifying this is, if you are interested and have the money to actually go through with this then check out Zero G's website to set up your appointment. For those who cannot afford this treat, well..... just live vicariously through the people in the video like I have done.

Be sure to check back soon, as we are in the process of updating and overhauling our site to give you all a better user experience. Also there will be more tech and humor post coming with the update. Stay Tuned!

1ms Lag with new technology from Microsoft

Tech:

Well Microsoft is still in the game. Just when you think that they are on their way out of the market, they comeback with technology that is far beyond what we are currently seeing on the market. What we have here is Microsoft bringing touchscreen lag down to 1ms (millisecond). For those of you out there not impressed or have no idea what I am talking about...well you need to watch the video below to see what I mean. Every smartphone and tablet on the current market cannot even compare to this speed. Every piece of technology that I have gotten my hands on has had such serious lag with the display and my fingertip that I do not see how consumers can keep calm when using these capabilities.....OK I clearly have done enough talking, so check out the video and pray that Microsoft will implement this technology in the near future.

Great Slow Motion Video ... Porter Robinson - Spitfire (Capture the Can) (Directed and Written by: Saman Keshavarz)

Music: Tech: Humor:

So I was just browsing the internet, and the current time is 4am (pulling all-night study sessions never work out as planned) and I just came across the talented Director/Writer; Saman Keshavarz. I have never heard of Saman before but I am glad I found him; partly because my mind is off this economic public policy exam prep. But seriously, this is a very detailed video, that is partly shot in epic detail slow motion. While watching this video pay close attention to the slow motion. You can pick up on detail that you normally would not see in real life....I guess that is the point of slow motion..huh?

I find this to be a fun video to watch as well because for all you C.O.D (Call of Duty) gamers out there, this is the closest you will see real-life combat in this style (except the whole rolling around on cars, running like a wild-man with no care of tactical strategy) Its a real life video game. To add to the whole video game aspect check out the chat/dialog box in the corner. Pretty damn funny with the user names.

Check out Saman Keshavarz Facebook Page and be sure to "Like" it. Also follow him on twitter if you want to keep up with all his other videos.

Don't forget to "Like" our Facebook Page too, we will soon be selecting followers who like our Facebook, to win some great prizes that involve signed items from the Music artists featured on this site. Do it up if you want free stuff!

Porter Robinson - Spitfire (Capture the Can)

Lastly the track you hear playing in the background is Porter Robinson's "Spitfire" I guess you could consider this to be a hard electro / dubstep track. You all know how I feel about Dubstep from a recent post. (I Love Dubstep, if you did not find that out from the past link) Believe it or not Porter Robinson, who hails from Chapil Hill, North Carolina, has made quite a name for himself at just 19 years old. He has toured along side GIANT names in the EDM (Electro Dance Music) scene, involving Deadmua5, Tiesto, David Guetta, and Afrojack just to name a few. Check out his Facebook Page and listen to more of his music there.

"Spitfire" - Porter Robinson

BONUS:
Want to see the Behind the Scenes to making this video. I was amazed at how coordinated this was and all the editing that went into this film. Check it out after the break!

New HTC Phones!

So for those of you who do not know me personally, I am a huge cell phone tech junkie. And I am in love with my HTC Droid Incredible. After using my Incredible for almost 2 years I am now finding that it is time to upgrade and get a new exciting phone. Before getting into the nitty gritty I must say that HTC is by far the best phone manufacture on the market right now (that is just my opinion though) But I love how smartphones today are more adaptive than they once were. You definitely do not get bored with these handheld computers.

Now to the News!

HTC just announced that they will be releasing 3 brand new phones by April, which will all run on Android's new OS Ice Cream Sandwich, and will have Beats Audio standard. Watch below to view each phone.

The phones:
  • One X featuring a 4.7-inch display, Exclusively for AT&T
  •

  • One S with a 4.3-inch display, Exclusively for T-Mobile

  • One V with a 3.7-inch display.

I Hope I Am Still Alive For This Underwater Train

Tech:

This looks like something straight out of a Scify movie or something. But what you are looking at is a plan for a 4,000 mph underwater train that will travel from New York to London. Doing the calculations out the total time the trip will take is just under an hour, compared to a flight that takes 5 hours. This is possible however there is some serious ladders to climb first. This tube will be essentially a vacuum and for it to reach the top speed of 4,000 mph there must be no air what-so-ever. If there was to be air in this tube the train could cause a seismic boom and sink the train and tube. So lets hope that we can get some engineers working to find a sufficient alternative or something because I really want to ride this.

Have Your House Attacked By Some Alien Robot

 Tech: Humor: Fun

So I just came across this really cool and fun website that allows you to enter in you street address and you watch this video of an Alien robot attack your neighboring streets and house. This is all done through Google Maps Street Viewer. Typically I am not really into the whole Scify scene but I find this to be enjoyable because everything on the screen is in your neighbor hood with this animated Robot trotting through destroying everything. Check it out HERE and watch your neighborhood and your house get demolished.

Drinkify Tells You What to Drink While Listening To An Artist/Song

Music: Tech: Humor: Life:

I really believe this post can be put under all 4 categories of this site, so read on.

So I just came across this cool site called Drinkify, and I must say that I will definitely try this site out the next time I have a drink. You simply just type in an artist or song and it will spit you back a drink recipe. Its so simple and seems pretty fun.

The one problem I can see however is that if you really drink the concoctions that Drinkify gives you, you better have a small version of  a bar of some sorts. So if you have $100 laying around you can easily stock a full bar using these tips from Lifehacker. Sure the nice furniture in the picture below will not be included but better believe that all the alcohol and mixers can be bought on this list.

Just give it a try now here at Drinkify.org.

Introducing Wunderkit

Tech/Life:

So I have been using this web based organizing task site for some time now, it was called Wunderlist. And they just administered a complete overhaul which now goes by the name Wunderkit. I must say if you are the type of person that needs to see everything you need to get done and check it off as it is complete than I suggest you take a look at this site.

This "kit" allows you to post all your life projects and organize them by projects. You you can have a personal list of tasks to do. All the while you can have another list or what they call "Activity" which can be "School Work" or whatever you want it to be called. With each activity you can open it up and make it social with your friends and family. That way if you were planning a trip with a group of friends you can create a "Trip" activity and have all your friends add tasks and what not to the activity. Pretty cool.

Now I realized I butchered this explanation so just watch the video and it will do all the explaining for you. Check Wunderkit out by clicking here. Now get started and get your friends involved with it.
